Savannah! Check!

We went to Savannah this past weekend and it was absolutely wonderful! We stayed at The Eliza Thompson House, a small bed and breakfast on Jones Street in the historic downtown area. Ever heard of the phrase "keeping up with the Jones'?" It was actually coined with this same street in mind. Here's the outside of our B&B.

The drive was supposed to take about 4.5 hours but somehow we made impeccable timing and shaved a good hour off of that. We left early Friday morning and arrived with enough time to check in and walk around the town a bit. We decided to grab lunch and walk around the neighborhood since we had been told ahead of time that parking sucks and everything worth seeing will be in walking distance. We had dinner that night at The Old Pink House. So good... I had baked Grouper stuffed with crab meat with mashed potatoes and mixed beans. So delicious. I love fish. I don't know why I don't eat it more often. We also tried the fried jalapeno mac and cheese.... strange, but still good. I think I could have lived without the fried part... Mac and cheese is delish on it's own. Here is DH on our way to dinner. He's got a palm rose that we had to buy from a lady who let us pet her dog. We're such animal lovers. lol
On Saturday we took a ride over to Tybee Beach. The weather was perfect. Probably 88, breezy and not too warm. We walked up along the shore for a while and then got some pizza at a local restaurant. It was nice to be at the beach considering... I honestly can't remember the last time I've seen the ocean, which is pretty weird for a girl who grew up going to the Jersey Shore each summer.
When we got back from the beach, we went over to Leopolds Ice Cream before heading back to the B&B for nap time (yes, all my vacations come with nap time). On Saturday night we had tickets to The Sixth Sense Savannah Ghost Tour. We actually bought the tickets in May of 2009 when we originally planned on going to Savannah, but my mom came down for the weekend with her bestie and we stayed in ATL instead. Thankfully, they were still able to let us use our tickets. I was really looking forward to this tour considering Savannah is one of Americas oldest and most haunted towns, but if I'm being totally honest, the Roswell Ghost Tour was much better. Both are walking tours, about 2 hours and contain a lot of history- not just a lot of ghost talk. But the Savannah one was more sad and scary and the Roswell one is a little more uplifting, if you will.

For dinner on the last night we ate at The Boar's Head. Another great recommendation... Although I'm not sure if I can really say that since I ordered the same thing as I did at the other restaurant... See, I really do like fish. Cliff had a steak for dinner and he said it smelled funny. He still ate it, maybe it had something to do with the marinade? We don't know. But the atmosphere was great and I really loved the scenery. One more picture - of us at our B&B at "cocktail hour."
It was a great weekend and I'm glad we came and did so much in one weekend! One more check off my list! Hope to visit again some day :)

  2. I am so glad you had fun in Savannah. Bummed that the ghost tour wasn't "all that," but sounds like you had an overall good time. We must all go as "one big family." You&C, H,S&I, W,B&M, me&L&???...and (hopefully) stay at my aunt's house for a long weekend. That might have to be in a year or so though, lol!
